Location: Greater London

As a Power Operator, you will support the 24/7 operational model of SEFE’s power activities. You’ll take ownership of scheduling, cross‑border capacity management, operational risk reduction, and the commercial optimisation of both thermal and renewable assets. The role offers exposure to market‑facing decisions, automation development, and front‑office collaboration.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

As a Power Operator you will execute European power scheduling, including clearing volumes on exchanges and submitting nominations to TSOs across Europe. You will work with short‑term trading teams to optimise thermal and renewable assets from Day‑Ahead to Within‑Day across UK and European markets.

  • Monitor, investigate, and resolve trade mismatches, nomination failures, imbalance exposures, and operational incidents—escalating where required, including monitoring real‑time market fundamentals to manage imbalance risks and support intraday position adjustments.
  • Participate in cross‑border capacity auctions and actively manage transmission rights.
  • Work closely with Commercial Regulatory Affairs to understand and implement market design and regulatory changes across European power markets.
  • Collaborate with Middle Office and Settlements to ensure accurate trade lifecycle management and timely resolution of operational issues.
  • Real-time monitoring of market fundamentals to manage imbalance risks and support position adjustments
  • Develop and execute short-term trading strategies within delegated risk limits, directly influencing portfolio P&L by collaborating closely with intraday, Energy Transition, and cross-commodity trading teams.
  • Deliver operational excellence in managing assets and positions, operating within risk limits and delegated authority, with direct influence on short-term portfolio performance.
  • Collaboration with IT and trading desk on the development and refinement of asset optimisation tools (Python-based analytical, monitoring and optimisation tooling
WHAT WILL YOU BRING

Your previous exposure to the UK power market, particularly asset dispatch, intraday trading, or Balancing Mechanism processes, or experience in European power scheduling, capacity management, or Power Operations is advantageous for this role.

You will have:

  • Experience using Python (or similar) for automation or analytical workflows in a trading or operations context with a good understanding of Python for tool development or analysis; VBA and SQL are advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, including root‑cause analysis in complex operational environments
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast moving market
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Economics, Finance, Computer Science) or equivalent experience

Additional relevant certifications (e.g., energy market training, risk management) are beneficial.

  • Fluent in English; additional European languages are an advantage.
