Our Apprentice Construction Operative Programme is a level 2 apprenticeship that blends personal and professional development, exposing you to the heart of our water network business.

About the Programme

You will be based at Hucknall Road, Nottingham.

Your role will involve constructing, maintaining, and repairing water network infrastructure for domestic, commercial, and industrial users. You may work at one site or across multiple sites, including new build and domestic properties, often in all weather conditions. Your responsibilities include:
Liaising with customers face‑to‑face on site
, completing work to required standards, following procedures, and ensuring health & safety and regulatory compliance with the Drinking Water Inspectorate, OFWAT, and the Environment Agency.

What You Will Learn
  • Setting up site areas safely, maintaining property access and meeting regulatory, client, and customer requirements.
  • Preparing for water network infrastructure work, including identifying, procuring, and maintaining plant, equipment, and materials.
  • Conducting site risk assessments and excavating bitumen‑surfaced footways/highways to install new mains, water supply pipes, boundary boxes, and meters.
  • Executing water quality compliance checks to meet regulatory standards.

  • Capability to work in all weather conditions to serve customers and protect the environment.
Programme Details
  • Location: Hucknall Road, Nottingham, NG7 1GA
  • Standard: Water Network Operative

  • Duration: 21 months (excluding EPA)
  • Starting Salary: £22,500
  • Entry Criteria: Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE A‑C or Grades 4‑9). If you do not already have GCSEs in English and maths, you will need to take functional skills as part of the apprenticeship.
  • Driving Requirements: Full UK driving licence and own vehicle upon starting the role.
