Launched in 2025, the Global School of Sustainability (GSoS) is the centre of social science expertise for sustainability impact at the London School of Economics. We work in partnerships across the LSE community and beyond to advance pioneering sustainability research and global policy engagement. Our work is progressing on multiple fronts – including major initiatives on sustainable economic growth and development;
sustainable finance; political/legal/governance systems for sustainability; sustainable societies and behaviours; and protecting and enhancing nature and biodiversity. Across our broad research agenda, we have a strong orientation towards impact, including via our Global Impact Group (GIG), which engages with global policy making at the highest level.
We seek to appoint a Professor in Practice (Energy Economics), on a 0.4 FTE basis, who can help us develop a substantial programme of work on the energy transition and routes to a sustainable energy future. In line with LSE’s Professor in Practice scheme, the successful candidate must have a demonstrably outstanding track record in leadership outside of universities – including, for this post, high level leadership roles in both the public and private sectors.
They must also have very high level expertise and experience specifically in the area of Energy Economics.
They will help provide strategic advice to GSoS leadership and contribute to the GSoS mission more widely – including via participation in our capacity building activities and public events. They will also work with, and mentor, early career colleagues at LSE whose interests and expertise overlap with their own. Candidates are required to have excellent written and oral communication skills and must be able to demonstrate an ability to foster an engaging and supportive working and learning environment.
We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid and flexible working.
