Head of Faculty – Maths & Computing

Woodhouse College – a top-ranked sixth form with an inclusive ethos and a track record of sending students to Oxbridge and other leading universities – is seeking a Head of Faculty for its successful Maths and Computing Faculty.

• Line managing and appraising Heads of Department and other departmental staff.
• Taking accountability for the quality and performance of staff and students in the Maths and Computing Faculty, leading on monitoring the effectiveness of teaching, learning, assessment and student progress.
• Dealing with HR issues, such as staff underperformance and complaints.
• Overseeing the Faculty’s contribution to improving students’ progression to related employment and further study.
• Encouraging and supporting appropriate trips, visits and other curriculum-related enrichment.
• Ensuring appropriate CPD and training is available for individual staff needs and for wider Faculty and College needs.
• Contributing to College-wide self-assessment and quality improvement planning.
• Representing, promoting and celebrating the department and subjects, fostering a passion for Maths and Computing within the College.

• A current Head of Mathematics/Computing with recent successful experience teaching A level.
• Honours degree in a related subject and a PGCE or equivalent post-16 teaching qualification.
• Effective leadership skills with successful experience of managing colleagues and the quality of their work.
• Excellent communication and team-working skills.
• Insightful and accurate lesson observer with the ability to offer constructive support and challenge to other staff.
• Excellent classroom skills and the ability to employ a range of teaching strategies to engage and support students.
• Skilled in using assessment data and prior learning to inform planning.
• Good ICT skills, including the ability to use interactive whiteboards, graphing and spreadsheet software in a classroom setting.
• Awareness of curriculum development issues and an interest in strategic issues affecting the whole College.

Salary: On the sixth form college teachers’ pay scale between Point 5 and Point 9, £41,174 to £51,714, depending on experience, plus £3,382 London Weighting per annum. In addition, a responsibility allowance for Head of Faculty duties is payable in the range of £8,806 (RA13) to £12,193 (RA18) per annum, depending on experience.
