About The Job

The Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) is an NHS-commissioned course training clinical psychologists to high standards and eligibility for the HCPC statutory register of practitioner psychologists. The course is central to regional health and mental health workforce development and is delivered through partnerships between the University and London NHS Trusts. The Academic Director role reflects the University’s position as a leading provider of postgraduate clinical psychology training, aligning with strategic priorities in health innovation, community engagement, and interdisciplinary research.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Tutor to contribute to our Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology
. This is an opportunity to play a central role in supporting trainees’ personal and professional development while contributing to clinical teaching, supervision, and programme leadership within the Department of Psychology and Human Development and the School of Childhood and Social Care.

About You

The successful applicant will have excellent knowledge of the professional, clinical and academic requirements of clinical training programmes in UK Higher Education and will contribute to the development of Clinical Psychology in the university through research and teaching.

As Clinical Tutor, You Will
  • Act as tutor to a specified year group of trainees, including line management responsibilities and monitoring overall progress.
  • Provide individual tutoring, including Mid-Placement and Annual Reviews.
  • Support delivery of the Personal and Professional Development unit.
  • Contribute to clinical skills teaching and other areas of the programme aligned with your expertise.
  • Lead or contribute to modules, including teaching (lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops) and assessment marking.
  • Participate in placement planning and monitoring in liaison with partner Clinical Tutor teams.
  • Support trainees and supervisors throughout placements, addressing challenges professionally and proactively.
  • Contribute to supervisor training initiatives.
  • Provide research and thesis supervision in line with experience.
  • Participate in programme meetings, assessment boards, validation events and team development activities.
  • Actively promote and work in accordance with UEL’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) policy.
Essential Criteria
  • Post-qualification employment experience within the NHS.
  • Knowledge of current professional issues within the NHS.
  • Experience teaching and assessing at postgraduate level.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS) as conferring eligibility for Chartered Status.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Desirable
  • Research experience, ideally within the NHS.
  • Experience of clinical and research supervision at postgraduate level.
  • Experience working with Clinical and/or Counselling Psychology training programmes.
  • Experience supervising Clinical and/or Counselling Psychology trainees.
