About the Role

An excellent secondary school in Redbridge is seeking a motivated and inspiring Deputy Head of English to join its high-performing English Department from September 2026
. This is a permanent, full-time leadership opportunity ideal for an ambitious English teacher ready to step into middle leadership or an experienced TLR holder looking for progression.

Working closely with the Head of English, you will play a key role in shaping curriculum development, raising standards, and driving excellence in teaching and learning across KS3-KS5.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the strategic leadership and development of the English Department
  • Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and quality assurance processes
  • Lead on raising attainment and progress across KS3-KS5
  • Mentor and support teaching staff, including ECTs
  • Contribute to whole-school literacy and teaching & learning initiatives
  • Deliver high-quality English lessons across a range of abilities
  • Deputise for the Head of English and take on leadership responsibilities as required
The Ideal Candidate
  • A passionate, innovative English specialist with strong subject knowledge
  • Experienced teaching English across KS3-KS5
  • Evidence of raising attainment and improving student outcomes
  • Experience with curriculum design and departmental responsibility (desirable)
  • Confident leading staff, driving initiatives, and modelling outstanding practice
  • Committed to inclusion, high expectations, and whole-school improvement
