The School of Natural Sciences is looking to appoint an exceptional lecturer in the area of geophysics on a fixed‑term research and teaching position. You will be part of a vibrant team of researchers, benefit ting from state‑of‑the‑art laboratory spaces and high‑performance computing resources, and will collaborate closely with UCL’s Earth Science Department and Centre for Planetary Science.
Key Responsibilities- Lead an internationally recognised research programme in a chosen area of geophysics and apply for external funding to support this work.
- Teach core and elective modules in the BSc in Environmental Science, Geology and Planetary Science with Astronomy, as well as related MSc programmes.
- Supervise undergraduate, MSc and PhD students and contribute to research and teaching governance within the School.
- Actively engage in knowledge transfer, public outreach and collaboration within the School and the wider university community.
- Support the School’s commitment to widening participation and success of mature, part‑time and non‑traditional learners.
- PhD in an area of geoscience or planetary science, or a closely related subject.
- Proven record of publishing high‑quality research in the field of geophysics.
- Experience in the design, delivery and convening of undergraduate and postgraduate courses relevant to your background.
- Demonstrated aptitude for teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- Understanding of Birkbeck’s principles of widening participation and experience working with diverse learner groups.
- Experience in any area of geophysics, with a particular emphasis on planetary or environmental science encouraged.
£44,247 rising to £60,858 per annum. The salary is Grade LLEC on the College’s London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated weight/allowance applicable to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in London.
