Youth Outreach Worker (Zero Hours)
ARO Resourcing Services, on behalf of a Local Council in Greater (North) London, is recruiting Youth Engagement & Outreach Workers to support community-based youth programmes across the borough. This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with young people, build trusted relationships, and deliver meaningful community impact.
Salary / PayCompetitive hourly rate (dependent on experience)
Contract HoursFlexible, based on service need. Typical shifts include evenings, weekends, school holidays, and occasional daytime outreach.
LocationAcross the borough (community venues, estates, parks, schools, youth hubs, etc.).
About the RoleWe are recruiting relational, professional Youth Outreach Workers to support delivery across our youth service. This role is central to how we build trust, grow participation, and create safe spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and challenged to thrive.
You will work directly with young people (typically ages 11–19, up to 25 with SEND), meeting them where they are—on the streets, in estates, at community settings, and within youth hubs—to build meaningful relationships
, promote positive opportunities
, and support young people into programmes, mentoring, and activities

You will work alongside Youth Coaches
, partner organisations, schools, and community stakeholders who are delivering measurable impact. We want someone who can represent the service with confidence—someone parents can trust and young people can respect and admire

- Proactively engage young people in the community through detached, targeted, and centre-based outreach.
- Build positive, consistent relationships with young people, including those who may be disengaged or harder to reach.
- Encourage participation in youth hub sessions, programmes, trips, mentoring, and development opportunities.
- Act as a positive role model, demonstrating calm authority, respect, and boundaries.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners (e.g., schools, voluntary organisations, police, health, community groups) to strengthen local youth outcomes.
- Support community events and engagement activity to raise the profile of the youth service and increase uptake.
- Be proactive in identifying local opportunities where the service can add value.
- Recognise safeguarding concerns and follow local safeguarding procedures promptly and professionally.
- Contribute to creating safe spaces where behaviour is managed consistently and positively.
- Support young people to access additional help where needed (early help, emotional wellbeing support, careers support, mentoring, etc.).
- Support the delivery of sessions, workshops, and programmes alongside Youth Coaches and partners.
- Maintain professional records where required (basic attendance, incident logs).
- Uphold equality, diversity, and inclusion in all interactions and practice.
- Confident, respectful communicator who can build rapport with young people and community members quickly.
- Strong people skills: warm, calm, and able to hold boundaries without escalating conflict.
- Experience working with young people and/or communities (paid or voluntary) in a youth, education, sports, community, or mentoring setting.
- Professional mindset: reliable, punctual, well-presented, and able to represent the service positively.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Experience of detached or street-based outreach.
- Knowledge of local services and referral pathways.
- Experience supporting delivery of funded programmes and recording basic outcomes.
