Job Summary

The post has been designed to take a leadership role within the Trust looking at the experience and quality of postgraduate medical training within CNWL. The post holder will work closely with both the Postgraduate Medical Education Team & Director of Medical Education and the Quality Improvement Team & QI Clinical Lead for the Trust. The post will start on 5th August 2026 in line with most junior doctor rotation dates.

Main

Duties
  • Build on current Quality Improvement projects in relation to Medical Education.
  • Involve in key priority areas of the Quality Improvement Team such as improving safety on mental health wards and reducing moderate and severe harm incidents.
  • Provide support to the post‑holder to project plan, deliver and publish work in peer‑reviewed journals related to medical education and quality improvement.
  • Reporting to the Trust Board and other strategic meetings concerning QI initiatives.
Induction and Development Plan
  • Induction into the Trust, QI Supervisor/Manager, QI Team, and QI.
  • Agreement on work schedule through a Development Plan with the Trust Quality Improvement Clinical Lead and the Director of Medical Education.
  • Regular review of outcomes and deliverables with the PGME and QI teams.
Learning Opportunities – Quality Improvement
  • Introduction to IHI model and Trust‑led QI methodology.
  • Experiential learning on QI projects with a focus on postgraduate trainee concerns.
  • Opportunity to publish QI work in peer‑reviewed journals.
Learning Opportunities – Teaching And Training
  • Training as a QI Champion/Mentor and involvement in the QI Teaching Faculty.
  • Deliver QI Learning Programme to staff, including lectures and workshops.
  • Engage, train and support trust‑based postgraduate clinical trainees in the QI approach.
  • Develop and deliver bespoke QI training for staff across the Trust.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Education team to identify educational needs and design teaching for trainees.
Learning Opportunities – Leadership And Management Experience
  • Regular participation in QI Team management processes.
  • Attend trust‑level strategic meetings and report to the Trust Board.
  • Work closely with the Director of Medical Education to gain a deep understanding of Postgraduate Medical Training.
  • Opportunity to enroll in the Trust 2‑week Executive Shadowing Programme.
Learning Opportunities – Academic Programme
  • Attend CNWL Academic Programme events, including Trust‑wide Learning Rounds.
  • Participate in the annual Medical Conference and annual Research Conference.
Learning Opportunities – Research
  • Participate in research programmes in partnership with universities such as Imperial, UCL and Brunel.

Person Specification Essential – Education and Qualifications
  • Medical degree.
Desirable – Education and Qualifications
  • Additional degree or MSc in a relevant subject area.
Essential – Experience
  • Progression through medical training to SpR in the NHS.
Desirable – Experience
  • Prizes or distinctions, presentations at national or international meetings, publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
Essential – Skills and Knowledge
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Knowledge of education principles and concepts as applied to professional learning.
Desirable – Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience with improvement methodology and/or Postgraduate Medical Education.
  • Knowledge of career pathways in health care education in the NHS.
  • Good general knowledge / broad interest in academic medicine.
  • Research experience.
