PMLD Teaching Assistants

Special Schools South London

Principal Education is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) across specialist schools in South London
.

These settings support pupils with complex physical, medical, and learning needs
, requiring high levels of care, structure, and consistency. Many pupils are wheelchair users and require manual handling support as part of their daily routine.

The Role

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with severe and complex needs, working closely with teachers, therapists, and care staff. Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with PMLD and complex physical needs
  • Wheelchair handling and mobility support
  • Assisting with personal care where required
  • Supporting communication using sensory-based and alternative communication methods
  • Helping pupils access learning, therapy sessions, and daily routines
  • Maintaining a safe, calm, and nurturing environment

These are full-time, long-term roles (Monday Friday) to ensure continuity and stability for pupils.

Essential Requirements

You must be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience supporting pupils with PMLD or complex needs
  • Wheelchair handling / manual handling experience
  • A patient, calm, and compassionate approach
  • Understanding of safeguarding and SEN best practice
  • Right to work in the UK
  • A recent Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Based in South London or able to commute
Pay & Benefits
  • £120 £ 140 per day
    , depending on experience
