Behaviour Support Assistant

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Behaviour Support Worker / Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist primary SEN school supporting children aged 4–11 with complex learning needs, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound & Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and Autism (ASC). These pupils benefit from highly individualised education integrated with therapeutic support and personalised behaviour strategies.
About the Role
As a Behaviour Support Worker / Behaviour Mentor, you will:
* Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour support throughout the school day
* Implement positive, restorative and trauma‑informed behaviour strategies to promote engagement and self‑regulation
* Work with pupils with SLD, PMLD and associated communication, sensory or physical needs
* Collaborate closely with teachers, SEN support staff, therapists, and external professionals to ensure consistency of approach
* Contribute to behaviour plans, functional assessments, observations and tailored interventions
* Support pupils’ social skills, emotional regulation, resilience and independence
* Help maintain a safe, calm, structured and nurturing learning environment
What We’re Looking For
* Experience supporting pupils with SEN, especially SLD, PMLD or Autism
* A strong understanding of positive behaviour support and de‑escalation techniques
* Patience, empathy, resilience, and a consistent approach
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* Ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with pupils
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
