Blackstone Education are working with an Independent Alternative provision based in South East London who are recruiting a permanent Vice Principal - Curriculum Lead.
About the provision:
Our client are an independent alternative provision school with sports as a
specialism. They support students referred by mainstream schools and the Local Authority, placing pastoral care and holistic education at the centre of everything we do.
Role Overview :
Our client are seeking an inspirational, strategic and highly organised Vice Principal –
Curriculum Lead to join our Senior Leadership Team. This role is central to shaping and
delivering an ambitious, inclusive and flexible curriculum that meets the diverse needs of our learners in an alternative provision setting.
The successful candidate will lead curriculum design, quality of teaching and learning, and assessment across the school, ensuring high standards while maintaining a strong focus on pastoral support, engagement and personal development. This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring both strategic oversight and practical involvement in teaching and learning.
While experience or interest in STEM is desirable, the curriculum lead will take a balanced, whole-school approach, ensuring breadth, relevance and accessibility for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Leadership
• Lead the strategic development, implementation and review of a creative,
personalised and inclusive curriculum aligned with their ethos and values.
• Ensure curriculum pathways meet the academic, vocational, physical and personal
development needs of students in an alternative provision context.
• Oversee curriculum planning, sequencing, progression and assessment across all
subjects and key stages.
Teaching, Learning & Assessment
• Promote high-quality teaching and learning, tailored to students with diverse needs,
experiences and starting points.
• Support staff to deliver engaging, trauma-informed and inclusive classroom practice.
• Monitor and evaluate teaching quality through observations, learning walks, data
analysis and professional dialogue.
Subject & STEM Development
• Provide strategic oversight of subject areas, working closely with subject leads and
teaching staff.
• Support the development of STEM subjects where appropriate, without narrowing
curriculum breadth.
• Ideally contribute to the teaching of Mathematics, depending on qualifications and
school need.
Leadership & Management
• Act as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to whole-school
strategy, self-evaluation and improvement planning.
• Line manage curriculum leaders and teaching staff, supporting performance
management and professional development.
• Deputise for the Principal when required.
• Student Outcomes & Pastoral Ethos
• Champion a strong pastoral culture that supports student wellbeing, engagement and
behaviour for learning.
• Ensure curriculum provision supports re-engagement, attendance improvement and
positive progression outcomes.
• Work closely with pastoral teams, families, local authorities and external agencies.
• Compliance & Quality Assurance
• Ensure curriculum provision meets the requirements of independent school standards
and inspection frameworks.
• Contribute to inspection readiness, safeguarding practice and ongoing quality
assurance processes.
Person Specificaton:
- QTS or equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- Right to work in the UK (Visa sponsorship is not available)
Essential Experience & Skills
The successful candidate must demonstrate substantial experience and clear impact in all of the following areas:
-Strategic leadership of curriculum design, implementation and review across a whole
school or multiple key stages.
-Leading, monitoring and sustaining high standards of teaching, learning and
assessment, including robust quality assurance processes.
-Effective use of data analysis to monitor student progress, inform curriculum
planning, identify underperformance and drive improvement strategies.
-Curriculum leadership with a strong understanding of inclusive and personalised
approaches.
