The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) is seeking a highly skilled and detail‑oriented Editor to support the production of its academic publications in Islamic Studies. Reporting to the Head of Academic Publications, the postholder will play a key role in the copy‑editing, proofreading, and preparation for publication of scholarly texts in both print and digital formats. This includes English language academic works and annotated translations from classical Arabic and/or Persian critical editions.
Working closely with authors, editors, and publishing partners, the role ensures that IIS publications meet the highest scholarly, editorial, and production standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced editor with a strong background in Islamic Studies and academic publishing to contribute to the work of a globally respected research institution.
What we’re looking for- A Master’s degree in Islamic Studies or a closely related discipline.
- Proven experience editing and proofreading book‑length academic texts, including monographs and scholarly translations.
- Strong knowledge of academic publishing processes and book production cycles.
- Familiarity with Arabic and/or Persian transliteration, and experience working with classical Islamic texts.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and liaise effectively with authors, referees, and publishers.
- A commitment to accuracy, scholarly integrity, and inclusive working practices.
