Deputy Dean, Head of Department of Finance & Digital Economy

Main duties and responsibilities

• Provide clear academic and people leadership to a department of c.40 academic staff, fostering a positive, inclusive and high‑performing culture.
• Lead workload planning, performance management, and staff development, ensuring expectations are clear, fair and aligned to Faculty priorities.
• Be accountable for the quality of teaching, assessment and curriculum design across the department’s portfolio.
• Ensure programmes remain current, inclusive and aligned with employer and professional expectations.
• Lead the development and delivery of a clear departmental plan aligned to Faculty and University strategy.
• Manage departmental resources effectively, including staffing and budgets, to ensure financial sustainability.
• Contribute actively to the Faculty Leadership Team, supporting Faculty‑wide initiatives and collective decision‑making.
• Represent the Faculty internally and externally as required.
• Maintain appropriate engagement with employers, professional bodies and external partners to support curriculum relevance and student employability.
• Contribute personally to scholarship, research, knowledge exchange or professional practice, appropriate to the seniority of the role.
