Salary – £100‑£150 per day

Role Overview

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide essential support to students with SEN needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop vital social and communication skills. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other support staff to ensure each child's individual needs are met. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for special education and a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of children with SEN Needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored lessons and activities for students with SEN needs.
  • Provide one‑on‑one or small group support to help students engage with the curriculum.
  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support students' learning goals.
  • Use strategies such as visual aids, sensory tools, and alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton).
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
  • Support students with social skills, emotional regulation, and daily classroom routines.
  • Assist with behaviour management using positive reinforcement and de‑escalation techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and other professionals involved in the child's care.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Previous experience working with children with Special Needs
  • A relevant qualification in SEN or teaching assistance is an advantage
  • Strong understanding of SEN needs and effective strategies for supporting children with additional needs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • A proactive approach with a genuine passion for helping children succeed
Desirable
  • Basic first aid training
  • Experience with alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton)
  • Knowledge of sensory processing issues and strategies to support children with sensory needs
