About the role
  • Provide one-to-one support for a boy in Year 1 with ASD, working alongside class and welfare staff.
  • Assist with the pupil's academic, social, emotional and communication needs; support access to mainstream curriculum and adapt tasks as needed.
  • Help with transitions, structured routines, sensory needs and any additional support required during the school day (lessons, lunch, break, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff and possibly with external professionals to implement the child's support plan.
  • Start immediately, contract lasting until end of current academic year (July).
About the school
  • A community primary in London (ages 3-11), with an Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) for neurodiverse pupils, including many children with autism/social, emotional and communication needs.
  • The school aims to offer a broad, balanced education for all children, adapting to individual learning styles and needs so every pupil can make progress.
  • The ARP is housed in a dedicated purpose-built environment - with its own outside play area, sensory room, breakout spaces and individual learning rooms to support pupils' learning and wellbeing.
Person specification / desirable qualities
  • Experience or strong interest in working with children with ASD or additional needs.
  • Empathy, patience and adaptability: able to respond calmly and supportively to changing needs and behaviours.
  • Good communication skills; ability to work as part of a team (teachers, SEND coordinator, parents, external professionals).
  • Reliability, consistency and commitment for the duration of the contract (until July).
