The Head of Geography is the curriculum and departmental leader for Geography, working closely with Senior Leadership to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, ambitious curriculum for all pupils in Years 7-11. The post holder will ensure that students develop strong subject knowledge and geographical skills, enabling them to achieve outcomes in line with, or exceeding, their potential.

The role combines strategic leadership, quality-first teaching, and robust monitoring to secure excellent standards of teaching, learning, and progress across the department.

• Lead, develop, and inspire the Geography team to deliver an excellent curriculum experience across Years 7-11.
• Ensure departmental schemes of work align with national curriculum requirements and examination specifications.
• Keep fully up to date with relevant exam board specifications and assessment requirements, ensuring all staff are confident and compliant.
• Lead departmental meetings, co-planning, and professional development activities.
• Contribute to whole-school curriculum development where required.

• Plan and deliver high-quality Geography lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
• Model outstanding classroom practice and support colleagues through coaching and guidance.
• Ensure consistent application of academy teaching and learning policies.
• Provide pupils with meaningful feedback that supports progress and improvement.

• Track, monitor, and evaluate pupil progress in Geography across all year groups.
• Analyse departmental performance data to identify strengths and areas for development.
• Implement timely and effective intervention strategies to secure improved outcomes.
• Develop and review departmental improvement and action plans.

• Uphold the academy's behaviour policy and staff code of conduct at all times.
• Support pupils' personal development, behaviour, and wellbeing.
• Contribute to the pastoral system, including acting as a Form Tutor if required.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, following all relevant policies and procedures.

• Line manage teaching staff within the Geography department, supporting performance management processes.
• Ensure departmental compliance with academy procedures, routines, and expectations.
• Manage departmental resources effectively to maximise impact on student progress.
• Follow all health and safety requirements and statutory frameworks governing academy operation.

• Meet and uphold the Teachers' Standards.
• Maintain high professional standards and act as a positive role model at all times.
• Contribute to a caring, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties within the scope of the role, as directed by the Headteacher.
