Newham CAMHS are excited to be recruiting to a full time post as a Children & Young People's CBT Practitioner within the Wellbeing in Newham Schools Team. (Mental Health Support Team - MHST).

The post-holder will work within Newham CAMHS WINS providing assessments and interventions in and around local schools. The successful candidate will need to be a registered EMHP.

We are looking for confident CAMHS professionals who are keen to provide CBT evidence based interventions to children and young people within schools. You will have a demonstrable track record of providing collaborative and supportive interventions with children, young people, families, and parents/carers. The community served is multi-ethnic and culturally diverse and we welcome applicants who are skilled at working with the richness and complexity of this multicultural context.

Main duties of the job
  • Delivery of CBT based interventions for low mood and anxiety in educational settings across the borough, as per the MHST model and supporting development of the service.
  • As the post holder will be working within the community, they will establish and maintain positive relationships with professionals, agencies, charities and teams who also provide services to children and/or young people in the community.
  • Actioning the 3 core functions of an MHST: to deliver evidence-based interventions for mild-to-moderate mental health issues, support thesenior mental health leadin each school or college to introduce or develop their whole school or college approach and, give timely advise to school and college staff and liaise with external specialist services to help children and young people to get the right support and stay in education.

Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training
  • oA minimum of a second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a relevant subject e.g. psychology
  • oAND a registerable professional qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. EMHP, CWP, CBT Therapy) from a UK university or overseas professional qualification of an equivalent standard
  • oEvidence of continuous and relevant professional training and development (CPD), as appropriate with qualification period
Experience
  • Experience in working with children and young people with mild to moderate emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Experience of working with a wide range of social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs.
  • Experience of working with families, school and other partner organisation to support young people who may be displaying behaviours that challenge.
  • Experience of delivering evidence based Parent groups and psychoeducation groups.
  • Experience of risk assessment and risk management
  • Experience, skills and flexibility to contribute to and facilitate effective working within a multi-disciplinary team setting
  • Previous experience of working in CAMHS, education or community organisation with a focus on social emotional and mental health needs
  • Experience of working with children, young people and families in emotional crisis.
  • Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary context
  • Work in a multi-cultural setting, including working with interpreters and awareness of the impact of race and ethnicity on a CYP experience.
  • Experience of working in a specialist or alternative school or education setting
