Foundation School Deputy Director (South East London)
An outstanding individual is sought to fulfill the role of Deputy Foundation School Director (London Foundation School). This educational leadership role will involve a wide range of operational functions for the London Foundation School, working in collaboration with the Associate Postgraduate Dean (London Foundation School). The school oversees the planning, recruitment, education, and assessment of all foundation trainees in London, with around 2200 trainees across 5 Integrated Care Systems (ICS).
The role may include curriculum implementation, educational assessments, supporting doctors in training, quality assurance, and promoting educational excellence.
Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% their time working in-person.
Responsibilities- Manage one of five regions in London (NWL, NCL, NEL, SWL, SEL) aligned with an ICSc, developing excellent working relationships with the relevant Trusts.
- Provide expert support and guidance to the London Foundation Training Committee (FTC) and liaise with Medical Schools, Health Education London, GP schools, Trust Foundation Training Programme Directors, and the General Medical Council (GMC) for management and quality control of foundation training.
- Participate in national committees and meetings regarding foundation training as required.
- Oversee one of five work streams:
Community (including GP), Simulation and Teaching, Support for Less Than Full Time doctors, doctors returning to training after absence, faculty development, or International Medical Graduates (IMGs), in a Pan London role.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, written, and presentation skills.
- Committed to personal development and the ability to support others in their development.
- Primary medical qualification.
- Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, professional association, and/or regulatory body.
- Education qualification such as postgraduate certificate, diploma, or Masters in Medical Education.
- Experience working with doctors in training in an educational context.
- Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education.
- Currently in a clinical role in a relevant healthcare environment.
- Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi‑professional team.
- Continuing quest for personal and professional development.
- Academic interest in training and education across primary and secondary care.
