Job Title: Vocational Trades Tutor

Location: HMP Brixton

Salary: £35,000 + £5,000 London Weighting

Contract: Permanent

Prison-based role requiring full site presence and face‑to‑face learner engagement.

We are recruiting a dedicated Vocational Trades Tutor to deliver high‑quality training in multiple trades within a prison setting. You will work with small groups of learners to develop practical skills, knowledge, and behaviours that support their long‑term goals and reduce re‑offending. This role involves creating tailored training plans, delivering engaging lessons, and inspiring learners who may have had little or no prior education.

You will need flexibility, resilience, and a passion for vocational education.

• Deliver vocational training in multiple trades (e.g., bricklaying, painting and decorating, carpentry, electrics) up to Level 2.
• Identify individual learner needs and create personalised learning plans linked to employment goals.
• Prepare, deliver, and review comprehensive lesson plans addressing vocational skills and employability.
• Engage and motivate learners to increase retention and progression.
• Provide constructive feedback and adapt curriculum content based on learner feedback.

• Complete all required documentation (registers, enrolment forms, ILPs, reviews, awarding body paperwork) in line with contractual deadlines.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection standards.
• Meet contractual KPIs and performance targets.

• Work with colleagues to support learner progression towards qualifications and employment.
• Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Level 2 vocational qualification in one or more trades (bricklaying, painting and decorating, carpentry, electrics).
• Substantial vocational experience in one or more of the above trades.
• Experience delivering vocational training.
• Ability to use diverse teaching methods to engage learners.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills.
• Understanding of safeguarding, equal opportunities, health and safety, and data protection.

• Teaching or assessing qualification (or willingness to work towards).
• Experience developing curriculum and delivering roll‑on, roll‑off programmes.
• Empathy and experience working with disadvantaged groups or in secure environments.
• Knowledge of OFSTED Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
