Policy Officer – Secondary Education

Based in the NEU Head Office (London, WC1H 9BD
). Full‑time, permanent. Commencing salary £54,748 per annum.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare policy statements, briefings, commentaries and research papers on secondary education policy issues.
  • Conduct surveys, analyse data and produce report writing.
  • Provide support in examinations and qualifications within the secondary phase, and the needs of different learners such as students eligible for free school meals.
  • Develop constructive relationships with external bodies, including government, NGOs, campaign groups such as the Times Commission, Secondary Umbrella Group and other coalitions.
Qualifications
  • Policy or research experience in 11–18 education and issues affecting secondary teachers.
  • Recent, relevant experience in a policy or research environment, contributing to policy development and formulating policy recommendations.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of secondary education and professional practice, and principles of inclusive and equitable education.
  • Strong written communication skills, able to produce clear and detailed policy advice, briefings, research summaries, training and campaign materials, and consultation responses.
