Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Health & Social Care

Join Bath Spa U Ltd. as a key member of the academic team in the Health and Social Care department.

About the Role

The Lecturer / Senior Lecturer will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, inclusive, and academically rigorous teaching and assessment across foundation and undergraduate programmes. You will support student progression, contribute to the continual development of courses, and use learning technologies to enhance the learning experience.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality teaching and learning across a range of programmes within a higher‑education setting.
  • Tutor students and provide final‑year supervision, ensuring students achieve their goals and progress to positive destinations.
  • Develop and continually improve courses, coordinating effectively with staff and students.
  • Deliver subject‑specific sessions in line with learning outcomes and syllabuses of modules.
  • Identify learning needs of students and provide timely formative feedback.
  • Mark and provide summative feedback within prescribed deadlines.
  • Produce module/unit reports and support quality assurance activities.
  • Take responsibility for additional academic duties such as module leadership where required.
Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant subject area.
  • Minimum one year of teaching experience within UK higher education or further education.
  • Experience of planning and delivering teaching using a range of methods appropriate to higher education.
  • Experience of working in virtual learning environments to support and enhance student learning.
Senior Lecturer Level
  • A PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum three years’ teaching experience within UK higher education or further education.
  • Evidence of leadership or contribution beyond individual teaching, such as module leadership, mentoring, curriculum development or quality assurance activity.
  • Demonstrated engagement in research, scholarship or pedagogic activity appropriate to the discipline, with evidence of outputs, impact or ongoing development.
Desirable
  • Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or working towards HEA Fellowship.
  • A recognised teaching qualification in higher education or further education.
  • Experience of teaching in a similar higher education or education‑focused organisation.
Skills & Knowledge
  • In‑depth subject knowledge appropriate to the role.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and support learners from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage workload and time effectively with limited supervision.
  • Strong organisational, administrative and digital literacy skills, including the use of learning technologies and academic systems.
Additional Information – Salary

Salary range: £38,500 rising to £56,000 per annum. The lower end of the range is the default placement unless exceptional circumstances arise.
