Overview
Locum Consultant Interventional Radiologist (IR):
Applications are invited for two full-time (1.0 WTE) Locum Consultant Interventional Radiologists. The posts have arisen to cover maternity leave to start 9/2/26 and 16/3/26 for 7 months and 10 months respectively.
The successful candidates will have completed formal training in diagnostic and interventional radiology and will have experience in: general vascular and endovascular procedures; reno-vascular interventions including dialysis access;
Gastro-intestinal, HPB and urological interventions.
The candidates will require experience in embolization to support the on-call service (e.g., GI bleeding, trauma embolization, uterine artery embolization for post-partum haemorrhage, etc.).
The candidate should be able to perform peripheral arterial and venous interventions to support the current service demand at St Mary’s Hospital. Rapid access to imaging and scan turnaround times, while delivering a safe and high-quality service, are key priorities.
A key objective of the directorate is to provide robust radiology trainee supervision to both core and senior IR trainees, and it is anticipated that the post holder will make an active contribution to this. The post holders will also be required to join an on-call rota for out-of-hours emergencies.
The applicants must hold their CCT in Radiology and be on the GMC Speciality Register (or be within 6 months of being granted a CCT at the time of interview).
Main duties of the jobThe post will allow for maintenance of the IR service resilience, particularly at the CXH/HH sites, which has enhanced service delivery and thereby reduced waiting times for the renal vascular service at HH, cancer services on both sites and the urology service at CXH.
The post will be split between Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals with some flexible working at St Mary’s Hospital as required.
The post holder will also be required to join an on-call rota for out-of-hours emergencies.
The appointee will be expected to contribute to the general reporting work in the department, including CT/MRI and plain radiographs.
Assistance to the overall radiology team in the delivery of the cross-site “duty” rota which is in place to support rapid IP/ED reporting performance and trainee supervision.
