This is a substantive post for Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry to work on Fitzmary 1 ward. F1 is a female ward based at Bethlem Royal Hospital that focuses on providing treatment and support to women experiencing an acute mental health crisis. The post has become available following the relocation of the long-term post holder. The post is full‑time for 10 sessions a week (working hours are 9 am–5 pm, Monday to Friday).
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team and oversee the delivery of individualised care for all patients admitted to the ward. The role requires collaboration with the ward team, families, and external agencies to ensure safe and effective management of acute mental health conditions, focusing on recovery‑oriented approaches and timely discharge planning. The successful candidate will also be part of an active Consultant body and will join the Borough Consultants on call rota.

The post holder will have leadership responsibilities for the service and will be the RC for patients the patients admitted to the ward. The post holder will conduct regular psychiatric reviews and contribute to care planning meetings for patients under their care. There will be a need to support community and other inpatient colleagues, write tribunal reports, and attend tribunals as required.
The post-holder will forge good working relationships with other psychiatrists across the Directorate in order to encourage appropriate admissions, prompt discharges and assure a cooperative approach to the care of patients. They will be linked in with other Consultants and, if necessary, supported to join peer groups.

Person Specification- In the GMC Specialist Register (or if Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT)
- Membership of the Royal College Of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with RCPsych Guidelines)
- Section 12 approval
- With or eligible for Approved Clinician status (MHA, 2007)
- Experience of clinical work in General Adult Psychiatry
- Excellent knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
- Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team and provide leadership to the team
- Expertise in risk assessment and the use of evidence‑based interventions for the treatment of psychiatric conditions
- Ability to train and supervise junior medical staff and medical students / staff from other disciplines
- Higher Degree in relevant areas
- Previous experience as Inpatient Consultant
- Experience of being involved in management and Quality Improvement activities
