The Confederation, Hillingdon CIC works with General Practice and other healthcare providers to deliver its vision for “Hillingdon to deliver the best primary care outcomes for patients in the whole of London”. We are a not-for-profit community interest company. The Confederation works to develop and support individual GP practices, PCNs and Neighbourhoods and their changing needs. We deliver excellent clinical services ourselves both at scale and complementary to General Practice.
We are the provider representative voice for local General Practice into the wider NHS and other Partners. We are ‘of the NHS’ but independent, innovative and transformational.
The locum GP role is an essential member of the clinical team with the Extended Access Service. You will provide high quality clinical care to the patients attending the services, dealing with a diverse range of health needs. You will be part of a team providing a friendly and professional service, in a CQC rated good organisation. This will include, but is not limited to, surgery and telephone consultations, administration, complying with the Confederation contracts, and the education and training of junior/trainee clinical staff.
This role is expected to be a mix of locum shifts on site across 5 locations. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday 6:30pm-8:30pm;
Saturday - 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm;
Sunday - 9am-1pm. Once onboarded clinicians have access to booking shifts via Lantum. The role has opportunity for personal development as well as support other clinical areas within the confederation as needed.
- Provide high quality consultations to patients in Hillingdon managing acute and chronic disease
- Work with the operations team and Service Clinical Lead to ensure the provision of high quality care
- Work with the Clinical Lead to ensure the clinical safety of the service by provide clinical updates/training/incident reviews when appropriate
- Complete and provide the analysis of clinical audits as requested by the clinical lead or COD
- Practise evidence-based medicine, in line with national and locally agreed guidelines
- Conduct patient consultations during the service clinical appointment hours
- Undertake telephone and face to face consultations as required
- Prescribe in line with local and national guidelines
- Refer patients to secondary/urgent care and additional interventions as appropriate
- Manage long-term conditions and patients with complex problems
- Promote healthy living strategies and give health and wellbeing advice, generally encouraging patients to follow a healthy lifestyle
- Carry out patient testing and screening as required
- Make autonomous clinical decisions relating to patients’ health needs
- Use communication that is appropriate to the situation, including
- Communicating sensitively with patients and carers when delivering bad news
- Establishing appropriate communication methods to suit patients’ and carers’ level of understanding, cultural/language needs, and preferred communication method
- Anticipating and overcoming barriers to communication, seeking support from other staff members where necessary
- Use appropriate communication skills and style to make patients aware of risk, to obtain consent where necessary, and to ensure patients comply with treatment
- Provide services to the practice’s patient population to the highest possible standard, in line with competencies and professional code of conduct
- Monitor and maintain the standard of care provided, taking appropriate action if standards are not met, through self- and peer-review, benchmarking and evaluation
- Undertake clinical governance and clinical audit activities to ensure the continual improvement of service delivery
- Participate in reviewing and responding to complaints, significant events, and other shared learning activities within a structured framework
