Main duties of the job

What Will You Gain? As a Senior Clinical Fellow, you will:

  • Master advanced IBD surgical procedures including re-operative Crohn's resections, ileal pouch surgery, laparoscopic panproctocolectomy, intersphincteric dissection, and complex perianal Crohn's disease operations.
  • Develop expertise in IBD-specific endoscopic techniques.
  • Manage perioperative and long-term care of complex IBD patients.
  • Play a key role in multidisciplinary IBD team meetings, collaborating with gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, and nutrition specialists.
  • Participate in dedicated IBD outpatient clinics, inpatient management, and joint surgical clinics including transition and paediatric IBD services.
  • Complete an operative logbook featuring 80-100 major resections as primary or supervised operator.
  • Engage in quality improvement projects and cutting-edge clinical research with support for publication and conference attendance.
  • Contribute to the teaching and training of junior colleagues and allied health professionals.

Who Are We Looking For? We welcome applicants who are ST6+ with experience in General Surgery with a colorectal subspecialty or equivalent experience, and who hold full GMC registration by April 2026. You should demonstrate advanced laparoscopic skills, strong communication abilities, and an enthusiasm for multidisciplinary collaboration and teaching. An academic interest in IBD with research experience is highly desirable.
