Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry – Maple Ward

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to work as a Locally Employed Clinical Fellow in our Inpatient Wards in General Adult Psychiatry.
This is for Full time (40 hours per week) post based within South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust at TOLWORTH Hospital.
The post is being offered at the equivalent of Core Trainee level, and the appointment would be at a grade based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant. The post will be initially for 6 months commencing from June 2026. But there is the possibility that the post may be extended for a further 6 months, subject to availability and funding.
Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant will work at TOLWORTH Hospital, as part of an MDT in modern in-patient psychiatric wards. The Clinical Supervisor will be the ward consultant, based solely on the wards. The ward also has a second ward doctor (a core trainee or clinical fellow).
The post is suitable for doctors at several stages of their career including Post Foundation Year 2, doctors seeking attainment of specific expertise in an FY3 year, or an additional clinical post while they obtain MRCPsych qualifications.
The post will also suit doctors seeking to enhance their portfolio to gain entry to the training grades and doctors already in non-training Grade positions e.g. SAS doctors or Trust Fellows who are seeking a formal educational structure to their posts.
Training, educational opportunities and appraisal will be available to successful candidates, including attendance at the weekly academic programme.
Out of hours on-call is not a compulsory part of the role, but there may be an opportunity to take part in the on-call duty rota, if desired and subject to availability.
Participation in the Daytime on call Duty Roster is mandatory.

Person SpecificationEducational Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent
- GMC Registered
- Other basic degree, e.g. BSc,
- Honours or undergraduate distinction
- 2 years of post-qualification experience i.e. completion of FY1 & FY2 or equivalent.
- Management of mental health conditions under supervision
- Presented evidence of experience to date supported by references Attainment of the UK Foundation Programme or an equivalent level of experience.
- Experience of working in the speciality e.g. during foundation or core training.
- A good understanding of the principles
- Good communication skills. Enquiring, critical approach to work.
- Good organisation skills
- Honesty and reliability Able to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
- Able to travel to meet the requirements of the post.
- Evidence of participation in audit and clinical governance activity
- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities.
