Overview
This is a replacement post. The remit of the postholder will be to work within the multi–disciplinary team providing and further developing care for patients within the service. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff. It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of aspects of these services depending upon their interests and experience.
The post will be based at King’s College Hospital Denmark Hill.
- Clinical duties include the management of patients with a wide variety of anterior segment conditions, with particular emphasis on those amenable to corneal grafting. The post holder will be fully involved in preoperative and postoperative management.
- Depending on previous experience, an initial period of assisting will lead to performance of elements of the surgical procedures under supervision to ultimately performing complete procedures.
- The post holder will be involved in refractive and corneal crosslinking for keratoconus.
- The job plan includes participation in the on-call rota, and involvement in the acute management of acute anterior segment conditions, particularly corneal infections and trauma.
- In addition to clinical duties the post holder will be expected to be actively involved in research projects, with a view to peer reviewed publication.
- Tenure of the post is 1 year, renewable for one year by mutual consent.
- Applicants must have MRCOphth or equivalent.
- Previous anterior segment experience, including competence in complex cataract surgery, is preferred.
- Ability to perform high volume unsupervised routine cataract surgery is essential.
