Overview
We are seeking an experienced Locum General Practitioner to join our East London GP practice to cover the departure of a valued member of our clinical team who previously provided four sessions per week. The post will commence at the start of the first week of April 2026 and is offered on a locum (self-employed) basis. This role is designed for a clinically confident, independent GP who is comfortable owning their own clinical workload while working within a supportive, well-structured team.
Jobresponsibilities
- Face-to-face, telephone and digital consultations
- Clinical assessment, diagnosis and management
- Prescribing and medication reviews
- Making and tracking their own referrals
- Submitting and managing Advice & Guidance requests
- Reviewing, interpreting and actioning their own pathology and imaging results
- Managing their own correspondence, lab links and workflows
- Issuing and signing their own prescriptions
- Accurate coding and documentation in EMIS Web
Administrative and clinical support will be provided by the practice team; however, the role is explicitly designed so that clinical ownership remains with the locum GP, without inappropriate transfer of work to partners or other clinicians.
Sessions and remuneration- Four sessions per week
- Each session is 3.5 to 4 hours
- Protected time included for practice meetings and clinical meetings
- Pay: £90–£100 per hour (dependent on experience and mutual agreement)
- Role is locum-based, not salaried, with responsibilities for tax and NI, medical indemnity, and other liabilities

- Experience – Essential:
Experience in East London or similar high-demand urban populations preferred. Confident and proficient user of EMIS Web - Qualifications – Essential: GMC-registered General Practitioner; minimum three years post-CCT experience in UK general practice
- Knowledge and Skills – Essential:
Appropriate medical indemnity; up-to-date appraisal and revalidation; right to work in the UK - Disclosure – This post is subject to safeguarding and DBS checks as part of the standard recruitment process
