Job Details

Applicants are invited for this 12 month fixed term Locum Consultant post within the Paediatric Service between Moorfields Eye Hospital, City Road, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. This is a full-time post offering 10 programmed activities (PAs), of which 8 provide direct clinical care and 2 are dedicated to Supporting Professional Activity (SPA). Sessions include paediatric casualty, general paediatric clinics, an alternate week surgical list at Moorfields and two specialised retinal outpatient clinics at GOSH.

Responsibilities

Provide high quality care to patients. Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities. Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties of the post. Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and respond to their views. Operate on paediatric surgical patients and work with a multidisciplinary team to run face-to-face clinics.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria

  • FRCOphth or MRCOphth equivalent ophthalmic qualification
  • CCT or equivalent training
  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
  • Be on or eligible for the GMC specialist register

Desirable criteria

  • Higher Degree

Experience criteria

  • Extensive experience in the management of patients with strabismus and related pathology
  • Extensive experience in the management of paediatric ophthalmology

Training and knowledge

  • Completed Higher Specialist Training in Ophthalmology
  • Clinical Fellowship in Strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology with extended strabismus surgery experience
  • Competence in the surgical management of strabismus

Desirable training

  • Formal teaching experience or qualification
