Oesophageal Clinical Fellow

Go back Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 12 February 2026

This post is based in the Department of Gastroenterology at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals. The post holders will undertake clinical sessions in the Department of Gastroenterology at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals (as per proposed timetable). These posts address candidates who have completed or are completing their training in Gastroenterology and wish to gain higher experience in advanced therapeutic upper GI endoscopy and oesophageal physiology.

Successful candidates will be offered a post based on skills, experience, preference and interview scoring.

Main duties of the job

We offer a wide range of services to inpatients and outpatients with gastrointestinal and liver disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease, enteral/parenteral nutrition, hepatology services and oesophageal pathophysiology. Our busy endoscopy unit delivers around 18,000 procedures per year and offers a portfolio of specialised endoscopy services such as endoscopic ultrasound, cyst gastrostomy, oesophageal and colonic endotherapy (e.g. HALO RFA, endoscopic mucosal resections, complex colonic polypectomies), tertiary pancreatobiliary procedures, capsule endoscopy, and balloon enteroscopy.

Our vision is that the Guy's & St. Thomas will provide clinical, training and research excellence that consistently meets and exceeds the expectations of its patients and peers.

The post holders will contribute to the delivery of high quality diagnostic upper and lower endoscopy with the possibility to gain experience in one or more advanced endoscopy procedures, depending on personal interests and subject to availability of relevant endoscopy sessions. They will also contribute to the maintenance of endoscopy quality and safety standards.

About us

Our values describe who we are as an organisation and help shape our Guy's and St Thomas' culture. They guide us in everything that we do and are central to how we deliver our strategy.

We updated our values in September 2024 to express what we expect of ourselves and each other, both now and in the future. Almost 1,800 colleagues from across the Trust, helped develop these to summarise what matters to us as an organisation.

Ambitious: we innovate and strive for excellence

Inclusive: we respect each other and work collaboratively

The post holder will also be expected to cover certain additional endoscopy lists in rotation with other clinical fellows and to participate in the Saturdays endoscopy rota, which is currently 1:8 but may change according to service delivery needs. Participation in the on call endoscopy rota, covering weekdays and weekends, is also anticipated.
