Main

duties of the job

Newham Hospital Emergency Department is seeking to appoint two Trust Grade Registrars (ST4 equivalent or above) to join a busy, high‑acuity inner‑city ED serving one of the most diverse and socio‑economically deprived populations in the UK. The department manages a high volume of undifferentiated, high‑risk and complex acute presentations, spanning major trauma, medical and surgical emergencies, infectious diseases, mental health crises and social vulnerability.

This role offers outstanding exposure to senior clinical decision‑making, leadership, and operational management, with Registrars frequently leading the department overnight in a consultant‑supported model. The post also provides experience across a wide range of Emergency Medicine services, including Same Day Emergency Care, the Clinical Decision Unit, Injuries and Paediatric Emergency Medicine, reflecting the breadth of modern emergency care delivery. You will join a supportive, well‑established team of Higher Specialty Trainees and CESR Registrars, in a department renowned for its welcoming culture, education, governance and service development.

The post includes opportunities for leadership, teaching, audit, quality improvement and research in a department committed to tackling health inequalities and improving outcomes for underserved communities.
