Overview
This post would be ideal for a gastroenterologist in the middle or toward the end of their specialist training who wishes to develop a specialist interest in endoscopy. Post holders will be expected to be able to perform diagnostic flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and OGD independently and hold JAG certification.
Responsibilities- Design and running of several research projects relating to endoscopy, under the supervision of the endoscopy consultants with a view to obtaining a higher degree over a 2–3 year period. Duties will include coordinating their own research activities and 2–3 clinical sessions per week. There will be at least one dedicated training endoscopy session.
- Perform diagnostic flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and OGD independently and hold JAG certification.
- Be exposed to a wide range of advanced endoscopic techniques performed at St Marks and throughout the Trust, including surveillance of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, polyposis and hereditary cancers, advanced polypectomy, combined laparoscopic-endoscopic therapies, double balloon enteroscopy and video capsule endoscopy.
- Participate in the endoscopy & gastroenterology on-call rota. A degree of flexibility to help with back filling endoscopy lists is expected, which may involve cross-site working.
- Participation in the design and running of research projects, coordination of research activities, and attendance at at least 2–3 clinical sessions per week (with potential for one clinic per week).
- Participation and support in delivery of training courses, the annual Frontiers meeting, developing training materials and support for other education events and activities.
- Attendance at all academic sessions within the hospital, including weekly educational meetings, Grand Rounds and a polyp MDT; the post-holder would be expected to attend and present.
- Liaise with training and education across the Trust; cross-site working as required.
Attendance at training activities and opportunities for education and research will be encouraged; there is an emphasis on developing training materials and supporting other education events and activities.
