Overview

Job Summary

Locum Consultant Cellular Pathologist / Histopathologist with an interest in Gastrointestinal Pathology and Dermatopathology. Applications are invited for two new locum Consultant Cellular Pathologist / Histopathologist posts in the Department of Cellular Pathology at Barts Health NHS Trust. The posts are for a period of 12 months. One post is to provide Histopathology reporting within Upper and Lower Gastrointestinal Pathology including HPB and pancreas Pathology and non gynaecological cytology reporting.

The second post is for Dermatopathology reporting. Both posts are new with potential to become substantive at the end of the locum post.

The upheaval of COVID-19 has provided our consultant team with the opportunity to implement flexible working, both geographic and temporal, enabling us to deliver an efficient service in spite of lockdown restrictions. Going forward, we hope to retain and capitalise upon these changes which we feel allow us to maintain a healthy work-life balance whilst continuing to provide an excellent service for our users.

Our digital capabilities are expanding and we are implementing large volume slide scanning, remote frozen section macros copy and reporting, and glass/paper-free working.

Main duties of the job

The post is based in the state-of-the-art Pathology and Pharmacy building at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. Cellular pathology services are provided along specialist lines. The department provides a high quality service and the appointee will be a full and active member of the team.

Applicants are required to hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and to be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Person Specification

Essential – Qualifications and knowledge

  • MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent
  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Full and specialist GMC registration (and a licence to practise) or eligibility for registration within six months of interview
  • UK-trained applicants must hold a CCT or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
  • Non-UK trained applicants must show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

Essential – Experience

  • Thorough and broad training and experience in Histopathology and Cytopathology
  • Ability to deliver service without direct supervision
  • Understanding of medical audit principles and ability to undertake audit projects
