Specialty Doctor (ST equivalent) in inpatient General Adult Psychiatry – Evans ward, Clare ward, Virginia Woolf Ward – three posts available

Specialty Doctor posts in inpatient General Adult Psychiatry. Positions available for a male inpatient ward (Evans ward, Clare ward) or a female inpatient ward (Virginia Woolf ward). All teams comprise a Consultant Psychiatrist, one middle grade Doctor (ST level) and two CT/Trust grade doctors per ward.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the day‑to‑day caseload of the ward.
  • Assess new patients and manage all admitted patients: conduct in‑depth informed clinical interviews, mental state assessments, risk assessments (with a risk management plan in partnership with the Consultant and MDT), general physical examinations and order relevant investigations such as ECG and blood tests; formulate appropriate treatment plans with the clinical team and support their implementation.
  • Attend daily team hand‑over and other clinical meetings and twice‑weekly ward rounds.
  • Carry out risk assessments and formulate appropriate risk management plans.
  • Formulate care plans and carry out treatment interventions as appropriate.
  • Safe prescribing and recording of drug information.
  • Monitor physical health of patients, including physical examination and investigations as required.
  • Document in the patient’s electronic notes and liaise with the ward multidisciplinary team, the Consultant and other services including carers and relatives to optimise care.
  • Make referrals to other services and complete discharge and other relevant documentation in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with GPs and various other professionals/teams within and outside SLaM, including social services, DVLA and the voluntary sector.
