Overview

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) invites applications for a Sub-Specialty Trainee in Maternal Fetal Medicine. The closing date is 12 February 2026. Applications are invited for appointment to sub-specialty training placement in Maternal Fetal Medicine at University College London Hospital starting in March 2026. A National Training Number (NTN) is not available for this appointment.

The post is open to trainees who hold a National Training Number (NTN) as well as CCT holders and candidates from overseas with suitable/equivalent experience. If an applicant holds a NTN, they will need to apply for an OOPT from their host region in order to train in this post, bringing their National Training Number (NTN) with them. If invited to interview, applicants will need to bring a letter supporting the period of OOPT from their host region.

This is for completion of Maternal Fetal Medicine Sub Specialty CiPs subject to satisfactory progression.

Successful completion of this placement will lead to the achievement of acquiring sub-specialty accreditation in Maternal and Fetal Medicine. The expected duration of this programme is 24 months (whole time equivalent), however the actual duration may depend on the circumstances of the individual.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will undertake advanced subspecialty clinical training in Maternal and Fetal Medicine within a large tertiary referral centre, managing complex maternal and fetal conditions in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The role involves active participation in specialist fetal medicine and maternal medicine clinics, multidisciplinary case discussions, inpatient care and antenatal assessment, with increasing responsibility appropriate to training level.

You will develop expertise in advanced ultrasound, invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and the management of high-risk pregnancies, while maintaining core obstetric skills through supervised intrapartum practice. The role requires excellent clinical judgement, communication skills and the ability to work effectively across specialties in a fast-paced, highly specialised environment.

The postholder will contribute to audit, quality improvement, teaching and research activity in line with subspecialty training requirements, demonstrating professionalism, initiative and a strong commitment to advancing maternal and fetal outcomes within an academically led service.
