Job Summary
Whittington Health NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a 7‑session Urology Consultant with an interest in cancer. The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to high quality patient care, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets, and excellence in education and training. The post-holder will take part in elective in‑patient and day‑case surgery, outpatient clinics, and educational and administrative activities including weekly MDT team meetings and regular governance and audit meetings.
Candidates must be on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of interview or be within 6 months of the expected date of CCT. As the post is part‑time, the Trust is interested in candidates with existing academic sessions.
Responsibilities- One weekly operating list at Whittington Hospital
- Two clinics per week
- Weekly local and specialist uro‑oncology MDT meetings at Whittington Hospital and UCLH
- Participation in the Whittington Hospital on‑call rota
- Ensure clinical governance requirements are met and attend relevant Trust committees supporting the clinical governance structure
- Take on appropriate management responsibilities and lead developments in line with interests and experience of the new appointee
- Actively participate in teaching and training
- Contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development
- Contribute to research and development of the department
- Ensure arrangements exist so that hospital staff involved in patient care can contact you when necessary
- Trust commits to equitable working conditions with colleagues
- When attending on‑call outside working hours, elective activity is cancelled the next day

Person SpecificationClinical Knowledge
- Clinical knowledge commensurate with post CCT or fellowship training
- Eligibility for full UK GMC registration; possess FRCS (Urol) or equivalent
- On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of expected CCT
Clinical Experience
- Excellent clinical skills
- Capacity to use and develop a wide range of theoretical approaches
- Proven ability and commitment to carry out high‑quality research leading to publication
- Involvement in the clinical audit process and understanding of its aims and objectives
Clinical Skills
- Comprehensive training in urological surgery
Clinical Governance, Management & IT
- Ability to undertake and manage clinical audits, including supervision of junior staff
- Knowledge of NHS Clinical Governance framework
- Understanding of current changes in NHS management and organisational structures
- Knowledge of resource and budgetary management principles
Teaching skills & experience and Research
- Proven ability to teach in clinical settings
- Ability to act as a consistent reference point in a team and to take a leadership role where needed
- Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload, delegate responsibilities and supervise staff
Desirable
- Higher academic degree
- Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical or organisational context
