We are happy to advertise this 6 month Locum Consultant in General and Emergency Surgery at Barnet Hospital - Applications are invited for a 10 PAs Consultant post in General and Emergency Surgery at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust based at Barnet.
Responsibilities- Work as an Emergency General Surgeon and to be involved in a sub-specialist area of surgery that will complement the interests of the department.
- Provide hands on clinical leadership to the emergency general surgery pathway operating in accordance with the operational policy.
- Contribute to teaching, including undergraduate teaching, and the teaching and professional development of junior medical staff.
- Share in the general administrative and management responsibilities of the departments and participate in the R & D programmes of the department.
- Work with the existing consultants and colleagues in management.
- Support infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities.
- Participate in the supervision and training of specialty trainees and clinical scientists, teaching of other junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate.
- Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement;
Participate in service development and policy review.
The following is not an exhaustive or exclusive list of the duties of a consultant. The appointee is expected to:
- Provide senior clinician services to both the Emergency Department and the General Surgery Department as per job plan or as agreed within the Trust, and as required when on call.
- Work with consultant colleagues and nursing staff to ensure efficient use of Trust’s resources and contribute actively to clinical governance in the department and to development of quality enhancement projects in the unit.
- Provide senior clinician services to area of special interest as per the job plan or as agreed within the Trust.
- Show flexibility and undertake different appropriate clinical tasks within allocated DCC sessions at the request of the clinical manager, as the need arises.
- Actively participate in the department's Teaching Programme and undertake supervision, teaching and training of medical trainees and other multi-professional staff, in line with guidance from the relevant Royal Colleges or specialty bodies.
- Actively participate in clinical guidelines development, audit and CPD.
