Overview
Job Overview CNWL is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant Psychiatrist working in our 18-bedded mixed gender ward, Shore Ward. This is a full-time position suitable for someone wanting to broaden experience of acute psychiatry and develop clinical skills in a supportive and challenging environment.
Working for our organisationBrent Adult Mental Health Service provides services for adults in community and hospital settings. Our community services have transformed to improve the quality of care in line with the NHS Long Term Plan, towards more integrated, organisation- and place-based care. Brent adult mental health services include:
- Acute in-patients (3 wards – 47 beds) and PICU (11 beds) – Park Royal Centre for Mental Health
- Community Mental Health Hubs – three hubs serving the three GP networks in the borough (Harness and Kilburn hubs at Park Royal, Kingsbury and Willesden Hub at Fairfields House, Kingsbury)
- Early Intervention Service:
Fairlight Avenue, Harlesden - Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHTT):
Park Royal - Mental Health Act Team (AMHP Team):
Park Royal Brent Integrated Psychology and Psychotherapy Services embedded within teams - Community Forensic Service:
Provided in collaboration with West London NHS Trust - Brent Talking Therapies
- Brent Community Collaboration and health inequalities team
- Mental health social team (AMHP, hospital discharge, placements and complex case management)
- Rethink mental health team
Detailed job description and main responsibilities This role provides sole and dedicated consultant psychiatric care to people admitted to Shore Ward at Park Royal MHC. The postholder will:
- Provide leadership for the ward's performance culture, ensuring best practice and that Trust quality and productivity targets are met
- Promote an integrated, multidisciplinary ward environment with active and pragmatic leadership, enabling collaborative clinical and operational working
- Participate in quality improvement and service evaluation projects; undertake service evaluation or research as relevant to service improvement
- Provide overall clinical leadership for the Ward Multidisciplinary Team, including direct clinical assessments and consultations
- Provide medical input, consultation and clinical leadership to the ward and to people admitted to the unit
- Lead care planning and risk assessment for people subject to CPA
- Act as Responsible Clinician for Shore Ward as appropriate; attend and contribute to Mental Health Tribunals and Managers hearings
- Maintain regular clinical liaison with Community Consultants, Psychological Medicine, CMHTs and CRHTT to ensure timely discharge
- Active role in the postgraduate teaching programme (local academic meeting on Wednesday lunchtime, including Journal Club and case presentations) at Park Royal
- Teaching and training of medical students from Imperial College School of Medicine; support work experience students where applicable
- Educational Supervisors role for core and higher trainees from the St Mary’s training scheme; access to relevant training as part of Job Planning
- Training and teaching of wider MDT staff with community teams and other borough teams
Qualifications
- Essential: MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Desirable:
Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management - Desirable: MRCPsych or MRCPsych-equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists;

Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at appointment - Essential:
Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months - Essential:
Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months - Essential:
Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months - Desirable:
In good standing with GMC (warnings/conditions on practice)
