Clinical Fellow in Pancreatico‑Biliary Medicine and Advanced Endoscopy

The closing date is 05 February 2026

This position is a clinical training post in HPB medicine and advanced endoscopy, specifically intended for those wishing to further their training in pancreaticobiliary medicine and advanced endoscopy. It will also offer excellent opportunities to pursue clinical research in these areas.

The gastrointestinal services division at University College Hospital is one of the largest in the UK, with 15 clinical and academic consultant physicians working within the subspecialty areas of upper GI medicine, HPB medicine, lower GI/IBD, nutrition, hepatology and clinical physiology. The state‑of‑the‑art endoscopy unit consists of 8 endoscopy rooms, including a dedicated ERCP/EUS screening room.

Main duties of the job

The unit has an international reputation for advanced endoscopy and pancreaticobiliary medicine, with tertiary referrals received from around the UK, and more than 1000 ERCPs/EUS performed each year. UCH delivers one of the biggest services in cholangioscopy and interventional EUS in the UK. The post will include at least three consultant‑led HPB endoscopy sessions, a general endoscopy/colonoscopy list, as well as a consultant‑supervised HPB clinic.

The appointee will coordinate the monthly UCL/Oxford supra‑regional IgG4‑related disease MDM. On‑call gastroenterology/endoscopy cover is likely, on a 1:11 rota. Further ERCP/EUS opportunities may be available at the Royal Free Hospital, where the consultant team are actively involved in the service. There is a growing portfolio of clinical research projects, with strong links to academic medicine within the department and University College London, and ongoing research areas include benign and malignant pancreatic and biliary disease, and advanced endoscopy.

Previous appointees have achieved the expectation of presentations at national/international meetings, and peer‑reviewed publications. Our team also has a very active endoscopy education portfolio, including the London Live Endoscopy course, Hands‑On ERCP training courses, and other regular interventional endoscopy courses. The successful candidate will also be expected to be involved in all our teaching commitments.
