The Locum Consultant in Paediatric Neurology post is a 9-month fixed term contract, covering maternity leave. The post comprises 6 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1 PA for supporting professional activities (SPA). The post holder will, as a member of the Neurology consultant team, participate in the on-call duty (currently 1 in 13, 0.5 PA/week) and attending rotas for in-patient service in acute neurology and neurology consultation service as specified in the job plan below.

TheNeurosciences Medicine Unit
We are the largest paediatric neurological centre in the UK and the principal provider of specialist child neurology services, both emergency and elective, for North Thames and the surrounding counties. The specialty provides a national and international service for the management of rare and complex paediatric neurology conditions. The aim of the specialty is to provide high quality, efficient, multidisciplinary care to children with neurological disorders.
In addition to providing treatment for all major paediatric neurology conditions, we provide sub-specialist expertise in many areas including Epilepsy and Epilepsy Surgery, Neuromuscular Disorders, Neuro-inflammation, Headache and Neurovascular disorders, some of which have highly specialized status. We have close links with our referrers and with the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square

- GMC specialist registration with a Licence to Practice (obtained by designated start date)
- MBBS or equivalent
- On specialist Paediatric Neurology, or Paediatrics Register or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years experience in Paediatric Neurology in a tertiary centre or within 6 months of award of CCT by date of interview
- Management course
- Higher research degree
- Specialist training in paediatric neurology in an accredited training program or equivalent
- Training in Clinical Governance
- Involvement in Clinical Audit
- Teaching Experience
- Awareness and experience of child protection processes
- Training / experience in management of children with acute neurological disorders
- Training / experience in management of children with complex epilepsy
- Proven ability to carry out high quality research, leading to publication.
- Proven ability to apply research and audit findings in a clinical / organisational context
- Excellent clinical skills in paediatric neurology
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with peers and work within teams
