Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is day work with on-call. Applications are welcomed for a full time (40 hours per week, 10PA) consultant position in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The successful applicant will join an established team of consultants providing a comprehensive service to the population of the North of Glasgow. This is a permanent replacement post for a colleague who will primarily contribute as a general gynaecologist with a regular elective major operating.

The successful candidate will contribute to primarily acute gynaecology on-call with some provision for acute obstetric on-call and planned Caesarean Birth lists. The acute gynaecology cover is organised as hot week  to improve continuity of care.

Diagnostic ultrasound skills are essential in the acute setting but there will also be the option to contribute to out-patient hysteroscopy and colposcopy service for GGC. The post will also have a special interest session as local gynae-oncology link for GRI. This is a new role for GRI and a development opportunity as the West of Scotland gynae-oncology regional oncology service is based at GRI.

The gynaecology unit at GRI is a busy but collaborative team with highly rated nursing colleagues and excellent support from anaesthetics and other surgical disciplines. The successful candidate will join a team tackling the general gynaecology backlog. It is anticipated that they will be able to support and co-ordinate the journey of patients with gynaecological cancers. The job plan will be reviewed on an annualised basis.

Applicants must have full GMC registration and a licence to practise. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT within 6 months of interview date. Non-UK applicants must have completed the CESAR process.
