Consultant Paediatrician w/ Specialist Interest in Paediatric Epilepsy

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic candidate to the position of Consultant Paediatrician with a Specialist Interest in Paediatric Epilepsy. This post would also include a requirement to be part of the Acute Paediatric & Neonatal attending and on-call rotas within the service.

This post is offered at 7PA's per week to include on-call working, with the job plan agreed with the Clinical Director upon the confirmation of an unconditional offer of employment.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a team of 20x Consultant Paediatricians and will undertake a split rota of inpatient and outpatient work providing input into the General, Ambulatory, and Neonatal Attending and On-call rota's, as well as completion a set number of Outpatient clinics both in General Paediatrics and Paediatric Epilepsy. On-call activities will be allocated on a pro-rata basis.

The Paediatric Epilepsy team consists of 1.40

WTE Consultant staffing, inclusive of this role, and 1

WTE Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The appointee to this post is required to:

  • Provide senior clinician services to Paediatrics as per job plan or as agreed within the Trust, and as required when on call.
  • Work with consultant colleagues and nursing staff to ensure efficient use of Trust's resources and contribute actively to clinical governance in the department and to development of quality enhancement projects in the unit.
  • Show flexibility and undertake different appropriate clinical tasks within allocated DCC sessions at the request of the clinical manager, as the need arises.
  • Actively participate in the Unit's Teaching Programme and undertake supervision, teaching and training of medical trainees and other multi-professional staff, in line with guidance from the relevant Royal Colleges or specialty bodies.
  • Actively participate in clinical guidelines development, audit and CPD.

Person Specification Education & Qualifications
  • CCT paediatrics (or within 6 months of obtaining)
  • Full GMC registration
  • MBBS or equivalent, MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Confidence with child safeguarding - up to date level 3 training essential

  • Research / publications
