Applications are invited for an experienced Specialty doctor to join Lambeth crisis services (Lambeth Home Treatment Team & Lambeth Crisis Outreach Service) part time and Lambeth Alliance Rehabilitation Team part time, together making up a full time position.

Job overview:
Both services cater for adults (18 to 65 years old) with severe mental illness who are living within the borough of Lambeth. The post is full‑time fixed‑term, currently based part‑time at Lambeth hospital working across Lambeth Home Treatment Team (HTT) and Lambeth Crisis Outreach Service (COS) and part‑time with Lambeth Alliance Rehabilitation Team. It is 9 am‑5 pm with no on‑call responsibilities, although you are welcome to contribute to gaps in the junior doctor rota and will be compensated for doing so.
All services in Lambeth Hospital will be relocated to different Trust sites in the autumn of 2026. At that point this post will move along with the staff of HTT & COS to 308 Brixton Road.
The appointed post holder will have one day a week allocated for supporting professional activities. A full induction programme will be offered. The post will initially be for a period of 6 months with possibility of extension beyond this.
Main duties of the jobSpecialty Doctor with Lambeth Home Treatment Team and Lambeth Crisis Outreach Service will provide psychiatric medical input to patients with Lambeth HTT and patients being assessed by Lambeth COS two days a week. The post holder will be part of the wider medical provision for both teams which includes two consultant psychiatrists, a higher trainee shared with an inpatient ward, a CT and another specialty doctor.
The post holder will be involved in the assessment and management of adults who are of a clinical and risk profile requiring HTT follow up or COS assessment. Patients typically present with acute mental disorder and associated vulnerabilities with risk to themselves or others.
The same Specialty Doctor will also work two days a week with Lambeth Alliance Rehabilitation Team providing psychiatric medical input to patients in supported accommodation with long‑term mental health needs typically on clozapine or depot medication. The post holder will be part of the wider medical provision for the team which includes two part‑time consultant psychiatrists.
Job responsibilitiesLambeth HTT & COS:
- Provide medical and psychiatric advice to Lambeth HTT & COS under the supervision of the consultant psychiatrists.
- Initiate a psychiatric assessment, including mental state examination on first contact with the patient, and repeatedly update the mental state examination.
- Ensure that a physical examination of all patients is performed when indicated.
- Maintain adequate written documentation of all medical and psychiatric examinations of the patients and record contacts with relatives and carers and their outcomes. Clear diagnostic and treatment plans should be formulated and recorded, and a comprehensive case workup should be available within 24 hours of admission.
- Maintain adequate communication of medical activities.
- Maintain a professional and ethical stance towards the patients, their relatives, other team members and other agencies.
- Acquire knowledge of and competence in the legal framework including the Mental Health Act 1983/2007 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
- Acquire competence in basic psychotherapeutic techniques and attend supervision sessions.
- Clincial supervision by a consultant psychiatrist will take place on a regular basis with regular feedback.
Lambeth Alliance Rehabilitation Team:
- Provide medical reviews where required.
