Newly Qualified General Practitioner

Overview

The post holder will be employed by Greenwich Health the GP Federation in Greenwich. Greenwich has 7 primary care networks (PCNs) with list sizes of between 30,000 and 80,000 patients. The post holder will work for Riverview Health PCN, a grouping of 5 practices. Due to changes in the ARRS Scheme to introduce General Practitioners, we are seeking to employ a newly qualified General Practitioner (within 2 years of certificate of completion of training at the start of employment) to work alongside our practices and PCN staff.

The GP will be an autonomous General Practitioner working independently and with other health professionals to assess, diagnose and treat patients in a primary care setting. Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues and ensure maintenance of clinical excellence. Be professionally accountable and responsible for all elements of clinical practice in accordance with the GMC code of conduct, ensuring patient safety and high quality care.

The role may involve the following:

• Education and training to GP Registrars and other staff.
• Participation in PCN-wide schemes/services, including some extended hours and potential hub working.
• Independent travel across the Greenwich Borough and flexible work to meet business needs.

• Provide a mix of surgery and online/telephone consultations, home visits, and manage repeat prescriptions and correspondence in a timely fashion.
• Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
• Develop care plans in consultation with patients, following current practice disease management protocols.
• Provide counselling and health education; admit or discharge patients to/from caseload and refer to other providers as appropriate.
• Record clear, contemporaneous notes to agreed standards and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
• Prescribe in line with the practice formulary or generically where appropriate.
• Be available during surgery for emergencies when clinically indicated.
• Undertake a fair share of On Call sessions and extended hours, as allocated on the practice rota; participate in home visiting sessions as allocated.

• Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP
• General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
• Full GMC registration
• National Performers List registration (England)
• Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
• Current validation and last appraisal evidence
• Eligibility to practice in the UK independently

• Experience of working in a primary care environment
• Experience of continued professional development, QOF and clinical audit
• Newly Qualified General Practitioner with under 2 years from qualification
• Not previously been substantively employed at a GP Practice
• Experience of medicines management and ICB initiatives
• Understanding of the primary care contract and advanced clinical knowledge
