The RoleProduct Design Managers at Travel Perk directly support Product Designers in delivering the best work they can while also working on high-impact strategic design projects.
As a Product Design Manager, you'll oversee the design and delivery of experiences that support the growth and evolution of our platform. You'll team up with Product and Engineering leads to always keep scope and priorities clear, and to advocate for design and the customer within your area of ownership.
This is a hands-on role: you will be expected to do product design work alongside your team whenever is needed, in addition to your management responsibilities.
You'll help develop the product strategy for a specific Group (of squads) and fine-tune its design approach, while also guiding our product design teams to execute end-to-end user experiences and take a meaningful part in multidisciplinary teams as the design expert.
Focus area:
Finance Experience group. You will help shape and deliver experiences across the reconciliation journey for expense data, finance automation that reduces manual processes, ERP integrations (e.g., SAP, Quick Books, Sage), and our invoice processing tool.
This role reports directly to the Senior Director of Product Design. It is part of the Design Leadership team, shaping how we scale and improve while we grow in size.
What you will do
- You will directly line manage a team of product designers (typically 3-6 people), being responsible for their personal and professional development.
- Lead and support the Finance Experience group, making sure Product Design is contributing to the strategic goals and translate them into design strategies.
- Oversee complex design initiatives spanning multiple work streams, maintaining a high-quality standard delivery.
- Be hands-on in product design work when needed, partnering closely with designers to unblock execution, raise craft quality, and move critical work forward.
- Develop partnerships with Product Managers, Engineering Leads to help elevate the voice of Design and advocate for the user within Travel Perk.
- Effectively communicate design ideas and strategies to stakeholders, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with the wider Product Design team to align the experience, making sure journeys and design patterns across our tools are coherent and consistent.
- Drive continuous improvement of design operations by shaping the processes, frameworks, and rituals that elevate the Product Design team to world-class standards.
- Influence and support the growth of the team through hiring, networking, and sourcing future team members.
- 8+ years of experience as a Product Designer.
- 2+ years of experience leading design teams, mentoring designers and helping them progress in their career.
- Experience managing a small team (typically 3-6 people) and scaling delivery across multiple work streams.
- Strong B2B SaaS product experience.
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to constructively direct and inspire action within your team. You can successfully push a team to improve the quality of the work they ship.
- Solid communication skills (verbal and written). You are comfortable presenting ideas to multiple stakeholders and articulately defending design decisions.
- Special talent for breaking down complexity and creating context for others.
- Ability to influence product roadmaps working alongside Product Managers and Engineers.
- Experience educating, partnering with, building with, and influencing product teams.
- Comfort staying close to the work and being hands-on in design when needed.
