Description

At Perkins&Will’s London studio, w e are seeking a talented Intermediate Architect to join the team.

As an Intermediate Architect (RIBA Part 3 qualification or equivalent professional registration – ARB or international body), you apply design and technical skills with growing independence. You take ownership of discrete packages or smaller projects, coordinate across disciplines, and mentor junior colleagues. You bring clarity, rigour, and imagination to every stage of work – bridging design and delivery with confidence.

You demonstrate a solid understanding of how architecture performs socially, environmentally, and technically, and work closely with project leaders to translate ideas into built outcomes aligned with our Living Design values of people, place, and planet.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and Creative Thinking

  • Develop strong, contextually grounded design ideas that respond to brief and purpose.
  • Contribute to early-stage design studies and detailed development with creativity and rigour.
  • Prepare clear drawings, models, and presentations to communicate design intent.
  • Support and participate actively in design reviews, offering constructive critique and insight.
  • Research materials, systems, and precedents that enhance design performance and sustainability.
  • Balance creativity and practicality, ensuring ideas are ambitious yet deliverable.

Project Delivery and Technical Coordination

  • Take responsibility for design packages and coordinate documentation across disciplines.
  • Work collaboratively with consultants to align design and technical decisions.
  • Engage with codes, standards, and regulations to inform design quality and compliance.
  • Contribute to site phase activities – RFIs, submittals, and reviews – with attention to detail.
  • Support project scheduling, deliverables, and quality control processes.
  • Demonstrate awareness of budget, programme, and scope in daily decision-making.

Business Development and Studio Representation

  • Contribute to bids, competitions, and proposals through drawings, visuals, and narratives.
  • Represent the studio’s values confidently in meetings and client presentations.
  • Support the creation of materials that reflect the studio’s ethos and Living Design approach.

Studio Culture and Team Contribution

  • Mentor junior team members, sharing knowledge and supporting skill development.
  • Participate in studio design forums, critiques, and cultural initiatives.
  • Demonstrate reliability, initiative, and openness in teamwork and communication.
  • Contribute to the studio’s collective learning through CPD, peer reviews, and collaboration.
  • Contributes confidently to the development and coordination of design packages.
  • Applies knowledge of building systems, regulations, and technical principles with accuracy.
  • Integrates structure, services, and performance data into coordinated design solutions.
  • Leads small-scale work streams or assists senior staff on complex projects.
  • Communicates design intent clearly through sketches, drawings, and presentations.
  • Supports project delivery across design, technical, and construction stages.
  • Demonstrates growing confidence in engaging with clients, consultants, and contractors.

Tools and Technologies

  • Revit – used independently for modelling, documentation, and coordination.
  • Rhino + Grasshopper – for design development and parametric exploration.
  • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) – for presentations and storytelling.
  • Enscape + V-Ray – for visualisation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Microsoft Office – for coordination and reporting.
  • Environmental tools (e.g. Ladybug, Climate Studio) – to inform performance-based design.
  • 3D printing, laser cutting, and physical model-making – for prototyping and communication.

Growth and Development Goals

  • Maintains professional registration and fulfils all CPD obligations (ARB/RIBA or international equivalent), actively recording and applying learning to project and studio practice.
  • Pursues one or more accreditations aligned with Living Design (e.g. WELL AP, BREEAM AP, LEED GA, Passive House Designer).
