Experience designing for native & web products – Degree in a human behaviour or computer science related field or equivalent practical experience – 4+ years of relevant work experience as a UX/Product Designer in a product environment –
About the teamWe have a radically transparent and kind team culture. To say people at our clients business are passionate about our mission is not PR bull, we all very much care about helping parents reintegrate into the workplace (especially mums) and about improving the face of child development.
We’re committed to working with integrity, doing the right thing and building a company we are truly proud of.
About the roleWe’re looking for someone with a strong background in UX/Product Design, who can help us design solutions to some of our thorniest problems. Instead of an endless product roadmap, we run short development cycles to test assumptions and make smart decisions quickly. You’ll work closely with engineers and operations to find and build creative solutions for business problems and make sure we’re delivering the most value to our customers.
- How do we help families and nannies communicate better
- How do we ensure we’re making perfect family/nanny matches (like digital dating matching algorithms)
- What’s the best way to profoundly impact the well‑being of all families
You consistently put both users and data before your ego. You have lots to teach others about the value of design, and are equally willing to learn from those around you. You welcome and give honest feedback, especially when it’s hard to do. You’ll seek to create incredibly useful & engaging experiences, and will know how to balance perfection with progress & learning.
- Authenticity – We want you to be you, not the “work” version of you
- Extremely good critical thinking
- Experience working with Design Systems and Pattern Libraries, ideally having lead their development
- Experience designing for native & web products
- Degree in a human behaviour or computer science related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 4+ years of relevant work experience as a UX/Product Designer in a product environment
- The ability to gain appropriate feedback from users on your solutions through qualitative and quantitative testing
- Strong abilities to turn user research into solutions, with Information Architecture, Interface Design and Interaction Design in your toolkit
- Confidence in articulating the strengths and limitations of various design approaches
- Opinions on what makes for good/bad design for a given problem
- An analytical mind that uses empirical data as well as opinions to back up your arguments and fight your cause
- Emotional intelligence
- High level of creativity and problem solving skills
- Positive, collaborative attitude
- Experience working in an Agile/Lean environment with rapid prototyping and iterative development
- A solid understanding of a broad set of qualitative and quantitative research methods, and strong understanding of experiment design principles
- Ability to reason by first principles
- Excellent writing skills
- Confidence to influence, share and collaborate early on in the design process
- Desire to look for simpler but better solutions
- Passion & belief in your own ideas, with humility to recognise when you’re wrong
- Understanding of the pros and cons of Lean
- Experience in contributing to design systems and producing production‑ready designs that align with brand guidelines
- Take insights from throughout the business and tackle the biggest problems (challenging us when you think we’ve picked the wrong problems to tackle)
- Contribute to “what we should work on next” with good rationale behind your answers
- Design consistent and compelling experiences that contribute to our families’ well‑being
- Clearly and concisely present various stages of interface design development to the rest of the company
- Run your own usability testing to uncover issues, explore solutions, and gauge the usability of new and existing experiences
- Translate user feedback, business requirements, and quantitative data into design decisions
- Contribute and curate Shedd’s existing design system to create production‑ready designs, in line with the latest industry guidelines and our brand guidelines
- Facilitate workshops, Design Sprints, and Design Studios as needed – and be a protagonist for iterative design and development
How you’ll be measured:
Ultimately, it comes down to three things, in order of importance: your impact on our mission, the quality of output, and the value created through design excellence.
