About the role

We are seeking a consultant Landscape Architect / Landscape Planner to join our Landscape Planning team who are at the forefront of landscape and seascape planning in the UK. You will have the opportunity to work with and learn from industry experts in a range of fields, which include:

  • Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA)
  • Landscape character assessment
  • Landscape sensitivity studies
  • Landscape planning research
  • Landscape design, mitigation, and implementation
  • Green infrastructure plans and implementation strategies
  • Planning for future landscapes and responding to climate change
  • Landscape photography

You will be part of a friendly, award-winning multi-disciplinary team of Landscape Planners, Managers, Designers, Planners, Cultural Heritage Specialists and Ecologists at LUC, who are committed to high quality professional work with a strong emphasis on delivering sustainable and innovative solutions.

You will be involved with projects such as:

  • Landscape & Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA), often as part of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for a range of development types including renewable energy projects.
  • Routeing studies for electricity infrastructure projects.
  • Landscape character assessments for local planning authorities.
  • Studies of landscape sensitivity for housing, employment and renewable energy development.

You will be involved in all stages of projects from tendering through to completion, providing support to senior staff, and often working collaboratively with other LUC and external teams. The work will include carrying out site assessments, report writing and production of graphics, with extensive opportunities to undertake landscape fieldwork across the UK and further afield.

This is a developmental role and therefore it is expected that, with experience, you will build on your skills and work towards carrying out the full range of responsibilities. LUC will offer support in this journey with training and one-to-one support where required. Whatever your stage of progress towards professional qualification, we will support and sponsor your Pathway to Chartership (P2C) with the Landscape Institute.

This role will enable you to gain the breadth and variety of experience required, with opportunities to work with our landscape design team.

The role includes the opportunity to share and participate actively in the management and ownership of the business through the Employee Ownership Trust, which places full ownership of the company with the employees.

The role is based in LUC’s offices in Bristol, Cardiff, London, Manchester or Sheffield. We work in a hybrid model with people being in the office a minimum of two days per week. There will also be travel required to visit sites, client offices and other office locations.

A full-time role is based on 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday). However, LUC has a strong track record in flexible working, and we have been recognised for our flexible working culture, so we are happy to discuss a range of flexible working options for this role including part time hours (minimum 30 hours per week) if desired.

Salary: £26,250 - £33,500 FTE (including London allowance if applicable), depending on skills and experience

Experience and qualifications

This is an opportunity for an early careers individual (perhaps with some previous experience or completion of a year out placement). Our early careers opportunities will give your CV a solid foundation for your future career.

Supporting us in continuing to resource and deliver our exciting portfolio of projects to an excellent standard, we provide the ability for the individual to develop and learn, building the necessary skills and expertise to support our team of experienced landscape architects and landscape planners across the UK.

You will be highly collaborative, and people focussed with a positive outlook and happy to become part of a motivated team.

An organised and efficient approach to completing work within tight deadlines is important, as is the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and clients.
