About the job
The ideal candidate has a solid background in TV journalism and a spirit for adventure. He or she will be joining CGTN at a time of major expansion. Successful candidates need to be great storytellers, have engaging live skills, and be experienced at handling breaking news. Candidates should have a high tolerance for ambiguity and be independent to thrive in a country where they likely don't speak the language.
Preferred candidates have previously lived and worked abroad.
- Work closely with the news team to develop comprehensive news coverage.
- Host general news shows and assist in other shows as required.
- Conduct news reports and exclusive in‑field and in‑studio interviews.
- Perform active live shots in the field or studio as assigned by the producer.
- Write, voice and copy edit compelling news scripts. Film and edit news videos when needed.
- Prepared to work irregular shifts at short notice when required to cover breaking news.
- Support and champion all CGTN platforms and programs.
- Consistently and positively engages with the audience to increase General news social media footprint.
- Complete other tasks assigned by superiors.
- Native‑level English skills with a valid passport.
- 5+ years as a broadcast TV news anchor. Preferred:
Previous reporting/anchoring experience in China/APAC. - Smooth, mature, confident on‑air presence with flawless segues; carry on a conversation with the viewers, find urgency in stories, and engage the audience; come prepared for show and editorial meetings with developed lead story ideas; write and edit accurate, concise, compelling copy; live shot expertise; review reporter copy for accuracy, conversational writing, and clarity.
- Flexible, adaptable, and approachable. A reputation as a “go to” person in the newsroom; a mentor for up‑and‑coming journalists.
- Strong "in‑the‑field and live" skills.
- Experience producing and loading digital content that engages the audience and increases followers.
- A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or English preferred.
